In Help & Manual 5 the program logo in the top left corner was referred to as the "Application Button" and clicking on it accessed the functions normally accessed in the File menu in most Windows programs. Many users found the Application Button unintuitive and often had to search before they found these functions. We have now replaced it with the File menu, with a special "backstage view" that provides plenty of space for interactive dialogs with lots of options and information. |
For technical reasons the settings for popup topics in HTML Help CHM files and WebHelp have been moved to the HTML Export Options sections. You can now find them in: Project Explorer > Publishing Options > HTML Help/WebHelp > HTML Export Options |
The "chapter without text" option for creating empty TOC nodes has been removed from the Add Topic dialog. You can still convert existing topics to an empty chapter node with Project > Manage Topics > Change and with the right-click options in the TOC. However, we do not recommend using empty nodes any more. These empty chapter nodes in a hierarchical table of contents are not supported in some output formats. In addition to this they tend to confuse users accessing documentation: When you click on a "chapter without text" in an interactive TOC nothing happens, and this is often interpreted as an error. |
In previous versions of Help & Manual dashes (-) in topic IDs were converted to underscores in the HTML file names generated from the IDs in HTML-based export formats. This was not necessary, since dashes are actually allowed in HTML file names. Dashes are now left unchanged when topic IDs are converted to HTML file names. You may need to change calls and links to your output files accordingly when you re-publish old projects with Help & Manual 6 and later. |
A Server version license is required for running Help & Manual in remote sessions or cloneable virtualized environments like Terminal Server. On startup the program checks its environment and will prompt for a server license if necessary and not found. |
