Visual Appearance and Security

The settings in this section control the appearance of the embedded viewer that displays your Windows EWriter eBooks. In addition to selecting the template (non-editable) defining the appearance of the integrated eBook help viewer you can also define the size and position of the viewer on the screen, a graphic for a splash screen, a file icon and two sound effects.

prod_tip       Zoom +/- Keys

In your finished EWriter eBook pressing the CTRL+[Plus] and CTRL+[Minus] keys will zoom the eBook display in and out

eBook Window:

These settings define the size and position of the eBook viewer when the user opens it. Use the Position Wizard button to define a custom size and position quickly.

Automatic settings for different resolutions:

Note that the size settings here are treated as "relative" and not "physical" pixels and the size will scale proportionally on Windows systems with different scaling settings and resolutions.

You don't need to worry about users with different monitor resolutions and Windows scaling settings. Just set up the window size so that it looks good on the monitor you are working on. Then it will also look good on your users' screens. It just works.

Choose an .ico format icon file to be displayed for your eBook file in Windows Explorer.

Store position in registry after use:

Stores the size and position of the eBook viewer when it is closed so that it reopens in the same position with the same dimensions the next time the user views it.

Full screen kiosk mode:

Use for display on demo devices where you don't want the user to be able to close the book or switch to another program. This is useful at trade shows, where you would set up the book on a touchscreen device without access to a keyboard.

Copy and print options:

Restrict the ability of the user to copy or print content.

Show button text in caption bar:

When this is active the navigation buttons in the viewer have text captions.

Command line interface:

This must be enabled if you want to be able to display topics in the eBook from software applications. See this topic for more details.

Require Admin mode:

The user can only view the eBook from an Administrator Windows account.

Open external links in default browser:

When this is selected, links to external web pages open in the user's default web browser.

This is recommended, because otherwise the external pages will open in the eBook viewer, replacing the current eBook page. Also, the embedded browser may not provide desirable functionality for normal web pages that often need to navigate elsewhere.

Password and text prompt:

Password required to open the eBook and text prompt to display when asking for the password.

Expiry date:

Create a time-limited eBook that expires automatically on a specific date. The book cannot be opened or accessed after this date.
