eWriter Viewer v5.6 and Viewer Distributables

eWriter Viewer (for Windows) has been updated to version 5.6.

v5.5: This update fixes a bug that occurred when the eViewer Windows app was running in Internet Explorer mode and the computer did not have an internet connection. This has caused an error message when opening an eWriter ebook.

v5.6: This update eliminates the need to distribute the additional “WebView2Loader.dll” with the viewer executable. The viewer now includes the DLL as a resource file and uses it implicitly. This means that on most Win10 and Win11 machines, eViewer runs in Microsoft Edge (Chromium) mode.

eWriter Viewer and Viewer Distributables

eWriter Viewer has been updated to version 5.4.

This update fixes a sorting issue in custom menu items and, if the eWriter file includes a custom icon with multiple resolutions, it uses the larger resolution for the taskbar icon.

Premium Pack 5.2.2 for SnipSVG 2.0

We have just released a small update to Premium Pack 5 that basically just adds compatibility with the new SnipSVG 2.0. All the skins in the Premium Pack now support the new animated SVGs and SVGs with embedded web video created by SnipSVG 2.0. There are just a couple of other small fixes.

How to get the update:

You can download and install the update with the link and credentials you received when you purchased. If you no longer have these, just contact support by email and we will help you out.

Changes in 5.2.2

SVG support:
Adds support for the animated SVG files and SVG files with embedded videos that can be created with SnipSVG version 2.0 and above.
Videos with captions in lightbox mode:
To comply with accessibility standards, Help+Manual now includes a <figure> tag around the video placeholder image. This prevented videos with captions from being displayed correctly in lightbox mode, which has now been corrected.
Link errors in V2 Modern skins:
Some V2 Modern skins included debug code that displayed an alert when any link was clicked in a topic page.
Social sharing link:
In individual skins, the social sharing link window opened could close instantly if it was opened a second time in a new topic.

Bug fix for configuration storage: in some cases, the eViewer did not store the last user settings. As a result, it always started with default size and position.

Start problems fixed: when started without a help file, the viewer sometimes did not start at all
HTML dark mode for Internet Explorer implemented (the Microsoft Edge display engine does support dark mode anyway). For details, see the documentation in the developer distribution package.

We officially released eWriter Viewer version 5 with full support for Microsoft Edge (Windows version).

Changes in Version 5

Accessibility improvements and better support for screen readers and macOS VoiceOver.

eViewer for Windows (32/64 bit)

Accessibility improvements and better support for screen readers
Supports Microsoft Edge as display engine, with a silent fallback to MS Internet Explorer if the Edge runtime is not available
Compared to the beta version released in April, the Edge display engine is now significantly faster and supports custom context menus.
Update v5.1 (Aug 7, 24): with MS Edge, external file links did not work when they were executed from an <iframe>. This was the case with external file links were included in ebooks compiled with standard skins.
